The Man Behind the Gongs
While receiving sound healings, a vision began to form. Something in my mind’s eye that I had yet to experience. I knew what I wanted. I wanted more from the gongs. I would bring what came through to me to life.
My desire began to bring forth this vision. Becoming the student, I entered spaces that held and passed down this knowledge. As I undertook the study of sound healing from the divine healers here in Humboldt County, I fell in love with the community. The heart of the offerings brought me to a place of belonging. True friendships began to emerge from a mutual passion for this work. I loved the diversity of energy work, the somatic expressions, the vibrations of sound, and the sensations of those vibrations.
This was my place. In my heart, I felt it.
When an opportunity was brought into our community to learn from a world-renowned gong player, I jumped fully into it, learning from Mike Tamburo, a world-renowned musician, composer, artist, and educator. He was like a wizard, and I received what I consider to be the most impactful, enlivening, magical, and truly resonant download. The once mystically befuddled sounds were demystified into a language that I now know.
I then decided to start my own path in this art, my own expression that was being downloaded into my mind, seemingly from some magical place within my creative inner space, longing to be expressed with a playful yet expansive voice. Drawn out from the vibrations as they seemingly reached into my very essence, vibrating and releasing a type of freedom that had been suppressed.
As I began to grow up, I had to be more acceptable, more adaptive to my environment to fit in and not be different, less magically imaginative and more practical.
Now all of me gets to be, and I see the joy of freedom as I have offered that to myself through this art. Now I play. I am free.
Every offering is my life’s work to unravel the expectations I and my environment have placed in my awareness. I begin to allow all of me to be free to express without judgment, shame, fear, or bypassing.
Through this work, I allow all that has been and all that arises a safe place to be felt fully. I offer a safe space for all of me and all of you to meet what is within with the same energy. Through sound, I have begun the unraveling and hold space at the edge of yours.
Here we are safe to bring all of ourselves into the present and hold it all with an open hand of love, acceptance, and freedom.
We create this presence in our lives. We offer this space to ourselves and to our community.
